FAQs
Alvakanda Construction Company
Are you certified as a women-owned or minority-owned business?
Yes. Alvakanda Construction Company holds certifications as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) and Minority/Women Business Enterprise (MWBE), and we're also SBA certified. We actively participate in supplier diversity programs and serve as a qualified partner for institutions, municipalities, and corporations with diversity spending requirements. What types of commercial projects do you specialize in?
We focus on commercial renovations, tenant upfits, interior build-outs, medical offices, retail spaces, office renovations, industrial improvements, and ground-up construction support. Our team also takes on select residential and mixed-use projects based on scope and location. Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Alvakanda Construction is a fully licensed and insured general contractor operating in North Carolina with expanding operations in South Carolina. We carry general liability coverage and collaborate with licensed trade partners to ensure all projects meet state and local requirements.Do you self-perform any of the work, or do you subcontract everything?
Alvakanda self-performs certain scopes of work including general construction, site management, and project coordination, while working with trusted, vetted subcontractors for specialized trades. This strategy enables us to maintain quality control, manage costs effectively, and keep your project on schedule. How do you handle budgeting and cost transparency?
We provide upfront, detailed estimates and maintain transparent communication throughout your project. Our proposals break down labor, materials, subcontractor scopes, allowances, and projected timelines so clients have the information needed to make informed decisions before construction starts.Do you coordinate subcontractors and permits?
Yes. We handle all project coordination aspects, including subcontractor management, scheduling, inspections, permitting, and communication with architects, engineers, and property managers to streamline the construction process. Can you work within occupied or operating business spaces?
Absolutely. We recognize that many commercial renovations take place while businesses continue operating. We collaborate closely with owners and property managers to minimize disruptions, maintain safety standards, and schedule work strategically as needed. How early should I contact a contractor before starting my project?
The sooner, the better. Involving a contractor during the planning phase helps identify budget considerations, constructability concerns, permitting requirements, and scheduling opportunities before plans are finalized. What is your typical project process?
Our process typically includes an initial consultation, site evaluation, budgeting and preconstruction planning, proposal development, permitting coordination, construction execution, inspections, and final walkthrough and project closeout. How do change orders work during construction?
When a scope change or unforeseen condition occurs during construction, we provide a written change order that clearly details the additional work, associated cost, and any schedule impact. No additional work proceeds without prior written approval from the client. We believe change orders shouldn't be unexpected, and we communicate proactively when one may be necessary.
